Coffee in the Cuban culture is a daily routine. Cuban hospitality means inviting a friend in for a coffee with the local phrase: “pasa amigo, tómate un buchito de cafe.” Come on, friend, have a little cup of coffee.
Cuba’s favourite cup of coffee is an espresso shot, brewed in an espresso pot and served in a small glass of medium thickness or espresso cup. Rural areas may enjoy a traditional percolated coffee (brewed in a ‘coladera’) and serve in a metallic cup.
In Cuba, coffee with milk is not considered a cup of coffee, but rather a beverage to enjoy as breakfast or as an evening snack – typically accompanied by a portion of buttered French baguette bread (pan de flauta) or biscuits.
